Trouble at Burlescombe

We recently posted about the joy that Aggregate Industries brings to other communities and about how DCC was holding a consultation: Responding to community concerns – Westleigh Quarry.

But AI's impact on Burlescombe has taken a new twist. This week, Burlescombe Parish Council was left with no councillors after a YouTube video reportedly sparked a mass walk out. As DevonLive reports:
It is based on a long-running dispute over a proposal to upgrade the 700-year-old lane for two-way HGV traffic to redirect Westleigh Quarry lorries away from Burlescombe.

This video was published on 12 May with the description:
A trip up Longwood Lane near Burlescombe, Somerset. This ancient by-way with its beautiful hedgerows, trees and wildlife is under threat of being made into a super highway for Heavy Goods Vehicles because a few members of Burlescombe parish council don't like lorries going past their modern houses that they moved into recently knowing full well it was quarrying village. It beggars belief.
